Well another reasoning that the heroes under coercion by the Wilson family can consider is this...
they all caved in because they all loved Lian, more or less. They can't stand the thought of consigning her to the care of Talia, more or less.
But how long before Canary, who has a strong moral core, and the very paternalistic Roy start thinking that, if they really loved Lian, would raising her in the Wilson universe be the right thing for her?
Would they want to see her grow up to be like Rose, for instance?
Or maybe, under Slade's and Rose's influence, inadvertenly mold her into another Talia al Ghul...
...which would ultimately destroy the very reason of their sacrifice and the compromise of their integrity.
Life is sacred. Especially of your child. Or your lover. True. But at what cost, what price?
I'd give anything for one hero who's really close to Dick - like Tim or Donna - laying down the sword in a manner of speaking and, in a page out of Mahatma Gandhi, tell him that they would rather die than be provoked to kill or live life in the way that Dick has chosen.
I truly wonder who win will over at that moment: Dick or his Renegade persona?
Sorry for rambling, but your writing picks my brain in the same way it squeezes my heart.
