Sorry about the emo-tasticness of that, pervy. My bad. Thanks for letting me know that I managed to get to you!
*Scowls at you.* Don't you know that I hate that word? I have decided that you must have used it on purpose as a way to punish me for not doing a more thorough fb. ;)
And *** or not, I do know what it's like to have someone who regularly reads your work not respond as enthusiastically as you'd hoped. And given the sheer amount of pleasure (not joy, though, because you made me cry) I got out of this work, I wouldn't want you to think that I loved it any less than any of the others.
So, Pervy FB, take two:
Batman returned from his canvassing of the other floors of the building with little more information than he'd had previously, barring that Starfire had been incapacitated within her room,
*kicks EVIL!Dick.* This whole story makes me hate Evil!Dick. I mean, I'm very fond of him and I love the storyline, but like nightwing_subs above, I really want to see him get punished.
Because, Holy Narrowmindedness, Dick. I don't care that you thought you could never regain Bruce's forgiveness/etc. I don't even care that this is all Batman's fault. There were other people that damn well could have forgiven you. The woman you killed, for instance. Tim. He's your own private little groupie. He might be a mini-Bat, but thinking that he wouldn't forgive you was shoddy rationalization at best.
This, is, of course, completely Dick to the core. He's been doing shoddy rationalization for so long that I forgot when he didn't. As usual, your characterization wins all the prizes.
Also, Dick? Know who else would have forgiven you? All Titans, past and present. Probably Babs, though I don't really care about her. Since you killed Kory off, can you do the same with Babs? I think it's only fair.
Let's see. . .Alfred. Also? Clark. Though. . . according to canon, no he wouldn't. He'd just be a judgemental ass.
The point is, Dick, you're retarded, or something. Bruce's forgiveness wasn't the be all, end all, even if you thought it was. If you can live without it while enjoying Slade's bed, you could have lived without it within the comfort of the forgiveness of your friends.
This whole situation frustrates me and makes me want to beat Evil!Dick repeatedly, but I don't want there to be any confusion - I LOVE YOU for making me feel that way. Because if you had done a lesser job with your storytelling, you wouldn't have presented the Heroes as well as you did AT THE SAME TIME as you presented EVIL! Dick and Company as well as you did.
At the same time? I went back and reread some of the earlier chapters, and when you're telling it from Evil!Dick's POV, I still have the lust/adoration/sympathy for him that I had originally, (and those stories still very much make me want the thing with you know who coming in contact with the you know what for Evil!Dick) combined with the hurt/anger that the hero installments have given me. This shows, I think, just how wonderfully woven, and how complex this epic is. It's very meaty - if other fan fic are Anne of Green Gables books - fun, but not the most filling -, this is an unholy mix of Grissom/Stephen King/Kingdom Come (in meatyness, not content. *g*)
Both sides are flawed, and I can completely understand - if not agree - with each and every decision that every person on both sides of this story have made. Moreover, and most importantly of all, even the decisions that make me want to SHAKE them, felt perfectly in character. I applaud that, because all the melodrama/angst/prOn/pain/intriguing plot in the world doesn't make up for crappy characterization. *Claps, loudly.*
This story in particular made me realize how very much I cared about the good guys and the bad guys both - care, as in, I have an emotional investment in seeing what happens to everyone involved.
And you know why? Because of that one line that I quoted above. It just drives home the ruthlessness that Dick possesses now. . .and it squeezes my heart. A lot.

So, yeah, you "managed to get to me." A lot. ;).
